ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The long wait through an inning in which the Chicago White Sox were backing him with six runs might have damaged John Danks no-hit chances, but he wasnt complaining. "Trust me, youll never hear me complain about six runs in an inning," Danks said after his first win in nearly two months, a 10-5 decision over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Brandon Guyers one-out double in the sixth was Tampa Bays first hit off Danks. "Hell take it, Im sure," manager Robin Ventura said. "All things considered, youd rather have a six-run inning than take your chances going out there trying to throw a no-hitter." It wasnt until Avisail Garcias second home run of the game had sparked a six-run inning for a 10-0 lead that Danks gave up his first hit -- and two runs. "Ive been there before," Danks said. "I cant go out there and walk the leadoff hitter like I did. That kind of set the inning off. It wasnt a terrible pitch to Guyer, I believe, but I kind of dug my own grave on that one." Winning for the first time in 10 starts, Danks (10-11) gave up two runs on two hits in six innings. Guyers double came after a walk to Curt Casali and a strikeout. But the White Sox had built a huge lead by then, and the only challenge Danks had left was the pursuit of a no-hitter. "Anyone who says they dont know whats going on is lying to you," Danks said. "Its a lot of fun just thinking about what could happen." Garcias first homer started a four-run second inning against Nathan Karns (1-1) during which Marcus Semien added a three-run homer. Garcia had three of Chicagos 12 hits, including his sixth and seventh home runs of the season, while Semien and Jordan Danks each had two hits. "I think it was a case of Avisail Garcia, the bat in his hand. That was our problem," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. The White Sox followed Garcias second homer with four more hits, including Alexei Ramirezs two-run double off reliever Alex Colome. Rookie Jose Abreu drove in Ramirez with a single for his 105th RBI. TRAINERS ROOM White Sox: 1B Paul Konerko was out the lineup for the second straight day, but Ventura said it is not related to the broken hand that kept him out two weeks. UP NEXT White Sox: RHP Chris Bassitt (0-1) and Detroit LHP Kyle Lobstein (1-0) are the scheduled starters Monday night. ... LHP Chris Sales final start will be Wednesday at Detroit. Mike Green also scored and Backstrom added an assist for the Capitals, who have won two straight and are 6-0-2 in their last eight games. Braden Holtby needed to stop only 21 shots for his second shutout of the season. (Ovechkin and Backstrom) carried us tonight, said Capitals coach Barry Trotz. We werent as sharp as we needed to be as a group. The big guys led the way when we needed a push. Green put the Capitals on the board just over three minutes into the second period, blasting a shot from the top of the right circle past a screened Schneider for his fourth goal of the season. The Devils nearly tied it on a goal mouth scrum with just under four minutes left in the second, but the Capitals counter-attacked on a bad New Jersey line change and increased their advantage with 3:22 remaining in the period. Jay Beagle carried the puck into the Devils zone and left a drop pass in the left circle for Backstrom, who ripped a shot off the post and into the net for his ninth goal. The Caps killed off a New Jersey power play early in the third period and Ovechkin gave Washington a three-goal lead at the 7:16 mark with a brilliant individual effort. Ovechkin, who twice hit the post earlier in the game, picked up a loose puck at center ice along the right wing, then slipped between New Jerseys Jon Merrill and Travis Zajac at the top of the rright circle before cruising toward the top of the crease and lifting a backhand over Schneider for his 15th goal.dddddddddddd. The Devils pulled Schneider with about three minutes to play and Backstrom scored into the empty net to seal it.
